Aldi launch self service tills - so you don't have to keep up with the cashier

Aldi has revealed what many of its customers have been waiting for - self service tills have arrived.

Those who struggle to keep up with the speedy scanning will be happy to hear that self service tills are now being trialled.

The new checkouts are being piloted at the discount retailer’s Glascote store in Staffordshire.

It is thought that the budget store has made the decision in a bid to compete with its rival stores.

The shocking number of items Aldi employees claim they need to scan per hour

Aldi’s main competitor Lidl has them in 150 of its 740 UK stores.

Retail Gazette reports that the trial of the new system of automated tills will be evaluated before a decision on further roll outs is made.

"We think these new checkouts will help further improve that experience and we are looking forward to seeing how customers respond to this extra option at our Glascote store."

The news comes after the country’s first ever Aldi Local opened in Balham, London, last month.

Again, Aldi will track the success of the Aldi Local store before deciding to open more across the country.
