Supermarket Aldi has issued a message to customers after making changes to its milk packaging. Clear caps are now set to be trialled on bottles in a bid to make more products recyclable.
Birmingham Live reports that stores will scrap green tops on British semi-skimmed milk products. Aldi and Muller's joint trial will first hit stores in the north west this month.
They anticipate an additional 60 tonnes per year of recycled High-Density Polythene (rHDPE) could be turned back into food-grade packaging. Richard Gorman, Plastics and Packaging Director at Aldi, said: “We know it’s becoming increasingly important to our customers that their everyday products are environmentally-friendly, and we are constantly reviewing ways to become a more sustainable supermarket.

“By trialling clear milk caps we are making our milk bottles easier to recycle, so they can be turned back into new packaging.” This move is the latest in Aldi’s efforts to increase the amount of recycled materials in its products.
The supermarket is on track to have 50% of its plastic packaging made from recycled materials by 2025. Aldi is rivalled by the likes of Tesco, Britain's biggest grocer, Sainsbury's, Morrisons and Asda.
