Aldi is named most popular supermarket in new league table

British shoppers have rated Aldi as the nation’s favourite supermarket, according to the latest polling data from YouGov.

The discounter was ranked ahead of M&S, Tesco and Sainsbury’s in the study. It comes as Aldi is set to create 1,500 seasonal Christmas jobs across the country as it opens a new store every week on average, bringing its low prices to more parts of Britain.

In the YouGov poll, popularity is based on the percentage of people who have a positive opinion of the supermarket chain.

Aldi came out top at 76%, followed by M&S Food at 75%, Lidl at 73%, the Co-op food at 71% and Morrisons at 69%.

The chart then has Sainsbury's (68%), Tesco (66%), Iceland (66%), Asda (64%), Tesco Express (64%) and Waitrose (61%).

Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi, said: “British shoppers know that Aldi is the only supermarket to offer an unbeatable combination of high-quality products at low prices. This is something that’s becoming increasingly important for households faced with rising fuel and energy costs.

“We’re currently gearing up for our biggest and best ever Christmas and look forward to helping our customers enjoy the seasonal celebrations they deserve this year, at prices they can afford.”
