Aldi is giving out a free diploma for wine-lovers

Do you know your Pinot from your Sauvignon?

Everyone thinks they're an expert after drinking a few glasses of vino, but now you can become an official 'wine buff'.

Aldi is offering its customers the chance to get clued-up on the fermented grape beverage with its very own diploma.

Donned the 'Aldiploma', the course is a first for a UK supermarket and will teach its shoppers all about the different grape varieties, food pairings, and its different styles.

The course is free to download and comes with six online modules, as well as six video tutorials - featuring the retailer's 'Mistress of Wine' - Sam Caporn.

The Aldiploma first covers how to identify types of wine, then there's a step-by-step guide into the grape varieties, plus how they can be paired with food, all before a comparison between white and red wines.

There's then a section devoted to the classic regions, with a discovery into the different wine styles to follow.

The course follows research that found two thirds of Brits are baffled when it comes to choosing wine, while 91 per cent having admitted to bluffing their way through an order.

Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, said: "The wonderful world of wine should be enjoyed by all and at Aldi we believe that visiting the wine aisle should be an enjoyable experience.

"The Aldiploma provides a unique and fun approach to learning about wine, giving customers the confidence they want when selecting a wine and debunking any complicated wine terminology."

To enjoy the full experience, Aldi advises to sip and savour a whole range of their wines while you make your way through the modules.

If drinking while studying is your forte, then you can download the course here.
