Aldi is eyeing up a second supermarket in Weston-super-Mare

Weston-super-Mare could soon welcome another Aldi store after its management revealed they are eyeing up a second site in the town.

Aldi's existing branch in Weston is located in the Flowerdown Retail Park on Aisecome Way.

But a spokesperson for the German company hinted that the town could be on the verge of seeing a sister branch open its doors.

They said: "We are always considering new locations for stores in areas across the UK, including a second store in Weston-super-Mare.

"When we have confirmed a location for a new store we will update the community."

The announcement comes after it was reported earlier this week that Homebase in the Queensway Shopping Centre is set to close before Christmas.

A number of people on a Weston-super-Mare community Facebook group have speculated that the outgoing DIY store could be replaced with an Aldi, meaning this could be the site the brand is eyeing up, although nothing has been confirmed.

The Weston Mercury reported that The Royal London Mutual Insurance Society, freehold owner of part of the site, has applied for permission to split the 5,060 m2 unit into separate retail spaces.

They added three units are reportedly under offer to Starbucks, Specsavers and KFC while Argos, which is based in the same unit as the Homebase store, will not be affected by the closure, which takes place on December 20.
