Aldi Ireland's clever trick to help customers queueing in mobs since 6am for toy event

Mobs of customers descended on Aldi stores across the country this morning for the Special Buys Christmas toys event.

Aldi is one of a list of essential stores that is allowed keeps its doors open during Level Five lockdown over the next six weeks.

And hundreds of socially distant people queued at shops this morning to get their hands on the Christmas toys - with some getting there as early as 6am.

Ahead of the event Aldi said to customers: "Children’s Toy Event tomorrow. Certain toys are limited to one per customer. A dedicated store marshal and ticketing system will be in place. Thanks in advance for maintaining social distancing and wearing a face covering. "

And this ticketing service proved to be a massive hit with customers meaning that their hours of queuing wouldn't be in vain.

One delighted customer said: "Absolutely brilliant way to deal with the queue by @Aldi_Ireland this morning.

"Now I know that the next hour waiting to see if anything left won’t be a waste of time."

Many other customers shared pictures and videos of the lengthy queues as they waited to get their hands on the toys.

One said: "Queuing for a child’s kitchen outside @Aldi_Ireland... One lad told me he’s been here since 6am!"
