Aldi Ireland respond to questions about whether Kevin the Carrot will hit shelves this year

2020 has seen a plethora of questions being asked by the Irish public but this week has seen another mystery added to the list, where is Kevin?

With the Christmas season quickly approaching, Aldi launched a recent marketing campaign that's centred around their beloved character, Kevin the Carrot.

Last year, it's obvious that the cartoon character a-peeled to the public because thousands of customers wanted to buy a plush replica of the valiant vegetable.

However, this year is a bit different due to COVID but all hope is not lost.

Mimicking the iconic Top Gun, Aldi has reintroduced Kevin the Carrot for 2020 in a clip that sees him and his best friend - a wingman named Turkey - launch a daring aerial mission as they fly a jet in an effort to help Santa Claus.

Sadly, just like the events in Top Gun, things go awry in the cockpit after Kevin is ejected out of the plane.

At present, the nation's favourite carrot might be temporarily M.I.A, but the Irish Mirror contacted Aldi to see if they'll be selling the replica toys this season.

A statement said: "Aldi Ireland can confirm it has postponed all non-essential product Specialbuy promotions with immediate effect.

"All non-essential products in the ‘middle aisles’ of its 144 Irish stores have been removed. These launches will be re-scheduled once restrictions are lifted.

"The decision follows further clarification from the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation regarding the classification of essential and non-essential retail.

"Specialbuy offers on essential products, such as Christmas food, beverages and DIY will continue to be placed on sale each Thursday and Sunday for customers.”

Much like the real Kevin after he went A.W.O.L, shoppers will have to keep their eyes peeled to see if replicas of Kevin the Carott will be sold in Aldi stores over the coming weeks.
