Aldi Ireland and Deliveroo team up to offer rapid supermarket delivery service

Aldi is to begin trialling a supermarket delivery service for the first time in Ireland.

The supermarket giant has teamed up with Deliveroo in a bid to get groceries to the customer's door in 30 minutes.

The trial will start from the German retailer's East Wall store in Dublin and it is to be extended to Aldi in Terenure on Wednesday.

And if successful, the company says the delivery service could be rolled out to further stores by the end of this year.

Niall O’Connor, Group Managing Director, Aldi Ireland said: “We hope the new trial with Deliveroo will provide more customers with access to great quality, affordable food at Aldi.

"This is a new and exciting venture for Aldi and we will be constantly reviewing how we can best serve our customers and continue to provide them with the high quality products they are used to in store."

The service is particularly aimed at older and vulnerable people.

Customers must order on the Deliveroo app, with Aldi staff then packing the items which will be collected by one of the riders.

And all orders will be fulfilled by Deliveroo riders contact-free to ensure safe delivery for customers.

Ajay Lakhwani, Vice-President of New Business at Deliveroo, said: “At Deliveroo, we are doing everything we can to make sure that people get the food they need and want during this unprecedented time.

"We are pleased to partner with Aldi Ireland and deliver even more choice to our customers.”
