Aldi 'invented Irn Bru and Yer Da Selling Avon' as Lidl troll store over Lorne 'lie'

Discount supermarket Aldi has been trolled by Irn-Bru and Lidl after it claimed to have invented the square sausage.

Scottish social media went into a frenzy today after Aldi took to Twitter to boast about its new creation, which claimed to make breakfast "a whole lot easier".

The 'Sausedge', which bares a close resemblance to a regular lorne sausage has been mocked by people all day, but now the heavyweights have had their say.

Before we go any further, let's remember the "tasty" meat offering has been around in Scotland for decades.

Aldi launches a new 'Sausedge' and Scottish people have been left fuming

Lidl went with a witty response, claiming the supermarket sensationally created the phrase "Yer Da Sells Avon" as well as the square sausage.

The tweet read: "Things Aldi also claim to have invented: 1. Irn Bru 2. Haggis 3. The Proclaimers 4. Yer Da Selling Avon."

While drinks company Irn-Bru mentioned that Aldi may have spelled the word "lorne" incorrectly.

In a Tweet the firm said: "You spelled 'lorne' wrong."

The true name of the Scottish sausage has been up for debate since it was created. Lorne, square or slice - we all have our name for it.

In reply to the Irn-Bru tweet, Peter Vaslan said: "and you spelled Slice Wrong."

When responding to Peter the firm said: "Surely Lorners, Slicers and Square Sausagers can set our differences aside on this day of all days."

While radio show host Ewen Cameron decided to write a letter on behalf of the nation, calling the supermarket "bams".

He said: "Dear @ AldiUK, Square Sausage belongs to SCOTLAND ya bams.

"Heed this warning....we’re going to sue yer ass unless you recognise our heritage & offer our great squared sausage nation a free sausage for every customer. Yours, Scotland"

The product has been launched as part of the supermarket’s “fresh weekly offers”.

As the item is only limited edition, it will only be available while stock lasts.
