Aldi introduces new till system with a function to make shopping easier

Aldi is taking steps to making the shopping experience plastic-free, cheaper and healthier.

The store has announced it is trialling new tills with a weighing function across 77 stores.

Alongside the new tills, Aldi has introduced a line of 13 loose fruit and vegetables so it will be easier to pick up and hand select your five a day.

It means customers can buy only what they need and weigh it for a price at the checkout.

Much like the store's Super Six deal, the new range promises lowest everyday prices per kilo.

It also gives customers the option to choose plastic-free alternatives and reduce waste.

The trial is currently across supermarkets in the north east of England, but if successful there's nothing to say it won't be rolled out to the 51 stores across Wales.

And while loose fruit and vegetables are being offered to those who want it, products are still available pre-packed for customers to purchase if they should want it.

The 13 new fruit and vegetable lines priced per kilo are:

  • Butternut Squash
  • Bananas
  • Baking Potatoes
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Bramley Apples
  • Brussel Sprouts
  • Carrots
  • Ginger
  • Leeks
  • Mushrooms
  • Parsnips
  • Small New Potatoes
  • Brown Onions
