Aldi insiders share why its checkouts are so small

Over the last few years, budget supermarket Aldi has soared in popularity thanks to its low prices and weekly Special Buys.

The secrets behind its success often leave shoppers and competitors baffled, which is no doubt why Channel Five's Inside Aldi: Britain’s Biggest Budget Supermarket was watched by so many viewers.

During the programme, the reasons behind why and how it manages to keep its prices so low were revealed by insiders.

The documentary featured ex-staff and experts who lifted the lid on the clever ploys that the retailer has used to make its products so competitively priced.

One of the secrets revealed showed this is in part down to the size of the check-outs, reports MirrorOnline.

As any Aldi shopper knows, these are rather on the small-side.

Experts on the show confirmed that a small till area prompt shoppers to put items straight back into their trolleys and then pack them at the back of the shop.

This means the check-out is cleared quicker for new shoppers, and staff can scan more items.

It's efficiency measures such as these which help keep prices low.
