Aldi has officially been announced as Britain's most popular supermarket

Everyone knows Aldi is popular among us Scots, but now it's official as shoppers have declared it the best supermarket in a YouGov poll.

The supermarket has officially been named the nations favourite supermarket after data was pulled from the recent poll, according to Wales Online.

The budget supermarket beat out M&S, Tesco and Sainsbury's for the crown this year and the news comes after Aldi is set to create 1,500 seasonal Christmas jobs across the country as it opens a new store every week on average.

The YouGov poll the data was pulled from, the popularity was based on the percentage of people who have a positive opinion of the supermarket chain - not just a positive opinion on their infamous middle aisle section!

While Aldi are walking away with the top spot this year, they did have some close competition from other supermarkets.

The data shows the rankings Aldi 76%, followed by M&S Food at 75%, Lidl at 73%, the Co-op food at 71% and Morrisons at 69%.

They were followed by Sainsbury's (68%), Tesco (66%), Iceland (66%), Asda (64%), Tesco Express (64%) and Waitrose (61%).

Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi, said: “British shoppers know that Aldi is the only supermarket to offer an unbeatable combination of high-quality products at low prices. This is something that’s becoming increasingly important for households faced with rising fuel and energy costs.

“We’re currently gearing up for our biggest and best ever Christmas and look forward to helping our customers enjoy the seasonal celebrations they deserve this year, at prices they can afford.”
