Aldi has message for customers after 'long and difficult' year

Aldi is a favourite with many shoppers across Merseyside, with the budget retailer now the UK's fifth largest supermarket.

The discount grocery chain said 2021 had been a "long and difficult year" for many, and as many people returned to online shopping as the pandemic struck, Aldi was often overlooked in favour of its rivals.

In December 2021, however, the retailer's sales increased by 0.4% against the same month in the previous year.

The supermarket giant has now promised customers the lowest prices "no matter what".

Giles Hurley, chief executive of Aldi UK, said: "There's no doubt that 2021 was a long and difficult year for lots of people, but our amazing colleagues stopped at nothing as they came together to deliver the Christmas that our customers deserved.

"As we look ahead, the top priority for most families this year will be managing their household budgets in the face of rising living costs.

The message comes after Aldi announced good news for its employees

It plans to increase its pay rates for store colleagues in Merseyside from February 1, 2022, as it maintains its position as the UK’s best-paying supermarket.

Aldi also remains the only supermarket to offer paid breaks, which equates to £750 a year for the average member of staff.
