The reason why Aldi staff ram your food so fast through the till

It's something Aldi is famous for. Aside from the cheap food and glorious treasure trove of a middle aisle, it is the checkouts that get talked about the most.

How dam fast do you want to throw my food at me through the till? Anyone with a trolley is okay, they'll just have to bag things up at the back counter by the window.

But for anyone with a basket and bags to fill on the go, it can be hell. Then once it's time to pay, the card machine now beeps at you to remind you to hurry up!

This reality is so known that even a spoof Aldi checkout challenge Facebook page has even been set up to poke fun it!

And this has left many customers asking why staff operate at such pace and whether that is what they are told to do.

A host of news sites asked the supermarket giant those very questions and  Aldi  has given a response.

Aldi said that members are "encouraged" to be as efficient as possible, which in turn helps to keep the prices low.

But Aldi said it does realise some people may need to pack at different speeds so checkout assistants are trained to alter the rate at which they scan so that they match the shopper's pace.

This means an elderly pensioner struggling with his or her packing will be given breathing space to pack and pay for their  shopping  at the speed they can manage while someone more able may race through.
