Aldi explains why it trains staff to scan customer's shopping so quickly through the tills

Aldi is loved for its low prices and weekly special buys but customers can struggle to keep up with its cashiers.

By now, the budget supermarket has become famed for how quickly its staff manage to scan shopping through its till.

It's led to shoppers sharing tips shared across Facebook and Twitter to help others master Aldi's checkouts.

Many customers ask why staff operate at such pace and whether that is what they are told to do.

A host of news sites asked the supermarket giant those very questions - and now ExaminerLive has spoken to Aldi direct.

Aldi said that members are "encouraged" to be as efficient as possible, which in turn helps to keep the prices low.

But Aldi said it does realise some people may need to pack at different speeds so checkout assistants are trained to alter the rate at which they scan so that they match the shopper's pace.

This means an elderly pensioner struggling with his or her packing will be given breathing space to pack and pay for their shopping at the speed they can manage while someone more able may race through.

So there you have it. If you feel like you're not keeping up, say something - the staff are trained to match your packing pace.
