Aldi expect to sell 30 quiches a minute in the coronation build-up

Budget retailer Aldi revealed it expects to sell around 30 quiches a minute in the run up to the Coronation of King Charles III on Saturday, May 6. Britons up and down the country will be preparing to host get togethers and street parties to officially welcome the new king.

And to mark the coronation, the King and Queen Consort released a recipe for a coronation quiche, containing spinach, broad beans and fresh tarragon. The retailer believes the quintessentially British scone will also be a hit at street parties.

Aldi believes 170 scones will be sold every minute. Brits also look set to stock up on jam and clotted cream, with both expected to see a 40% spike this week.

The retailer says coronation chicken is also expected to see an increase in sales. While it has also seen a huge spike in the number of people ordering coronation chicken sandwiches.

Alcoholic drinks also look to see a boost. With a whopping 4.2 million gin and tonics and 1.4 million glasses of Austins - the Aldi alternative to Pimms - set to be sold.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, says: “The King’s coronation is set to be one of the most iconic moments in history and we know many will be gathering to celebrate. There is plenty of quiche, scones and award-winning gin on Aldi’s shelves for our shoppers to enjoy at incredible value – and there’s still enough time to stock up before the big day.”

The news comes as Aldi partners with Anita Atkinson, the UK’s biggest Royal fan, to give her ‘royalist’ seal of approval on the supermarket's brand-new coronation range. From Coronation chicken pizza, coronation sandwiches and Union Jack cakes, to refreshing British strawberry gin and coronation beers, there is something for everyone, royal or not, to celebrate.

Shoppers can get their hands on the royalist-approved range, tried and tested by Anita, in stores now with prices starting from just 95p.
