Opting for own-brand produce is a highly recommended method of saving money on weekly shopping.
MoneySavingExpert launched a Downshift Challenge and told consumers to switch to supermarket own brand or value food to save 30% a year- that comes to a whopping £1,500.
Some switches however are easier than others with brands paying huge amounts of money to keep us hooked on favourites- no more so than in the fizzy drink aisle.
One curious Aldi shopper started a conversation on Facebook to find out how own-brand cola, lemonade and other flavoured pop compared to the originals.
Surprisingly a lot of the comments said they were better value for money and tasted just as good.

Brands like Coke have spent millions making sure that it's there at the checkout and a family favourite but if you are shopping in a supermarket that has alternatives you may notice that it's cheaper.
In Tesco, a two-litre bottle of Coke cost £1.59 but in and in Aldi a 1.75 litre bottle cost £1.89.
That price plummets to 39p if you get their own brand Cola so it's no wonder families are giving it a go.
The original post said: "Has anyone tried the aldi brand coca cola & what I thought looked like a lilt? How close do they taste to the real thing?"
Taste seems to be the most important thing to shoppers with one saying: "I love their diet or Coke Zero, tastes nicer than proper branded Coca Cola personally"
The price was a big plus for this family who said: "Really nice, I now have a large stock in the garage I wouldn’t be able to do that with the big brands as too expensive"
Another said: "My kids love the cola and I like it as it isn't as sugary tasting as other diet cokes"
Pretty soon other drinks were brought into the conversation and one person said this about Vive Cola Zero Sugar: "This one tastes similar to Pepsi Max my kids are very particular when it comes to drinks but they love this xx"
"Their lilt tastes exactly the same as proper lilt. Their ridgeway tonic, is exactly like fever tree & half the price" said another.
Lilt substitutes are a favourite as one comment said: "The juices are great and at £1.25 for 6 cans good price too x the tropical burst tastes just like Lilt x"
One more person said: "We bought some of the zero cola last week and it was fine. I prefer Pepsi Max but it was perfectly drinkable"
