Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, people shopping in face masks has become a familiar sight.
Most customers opt for a cloth covering, and make sure to stand two meters apart to avoid catching and spreading the virus.
But one man from Hartlepool appears to be more cautious than most, as he was spotted sporting a large blue and white astronaut helmet while shopping in Aldi.
The man was seen strolling through the fresh food section of the store, looking for bargains through his blue-tinted visor, Teesside Gazette reports.
Although he attracted startled looks from his fellow shoppers, one customer was so impressed that she paused from her shopping to snap a picture.
She said: “I've seen it all now. It's actually a good idea though! Hopefully no Covid is getting in there!”
It has been illegal for most people to enter supermarkets without a face covering since July 24th, and staff may ask maskless shoppers to leave the premises, however children under the age of 11 and people with certain disabilities are exempt.
Those who refuse may face a fine of up to £100.
Today, Britain's third national lockdown, which is expected to last until March, legally came into force.
Schools have been closed until February half term, and people may only leave their homes to exercise once per day, receive essential medical care, work only if they cannot work at home, and go food shopping.
The government has been forced to implement these strict new measures as Covid-19 cases soar, with a record high number of people infected on Tuesday, and 40% more people hospitalised than in the first peak.
However, so far 1.3 million people have been vaccinated, and the government is aiming to vaccinate all over-70s, clinically vulnerable people and front line health care workers by mid-February.
