Aldi coronavirus panic buyers 'leave elderly man confused and without food'

An elderly man was left "confused and stressed" after panic-buyers stripped the shelves of his local Aldi, it is claimed.

An anonymous Facebook post called on customers to use "common sense".

It claims they they witnessed the heartbreaking scene involving a pensioner at a local store.

The plea comes as coronavirus concerns mean essentials such as toilet paper, hand sanitiser and pasta are in huge demand.

But the knock-on effect is that vulnerable people, who are unable to leave their homes as frequently, are now being left without food, the Daily Star reports .

The Facebook post, which has gone viral, read: "I was just at Aldi with my daughter buying bananas and while waiting in a very long line, I met an eldery man who was doing his usual weekly shop.

"He was very confused and stressed and had been to two supermarkets already before Aldi to find various things.

"Please use common sense before you follow the hordes and start stocking up 'because everyone else is.'"

They continued: "There are people out there who cannot afford to shop in bulk and have a small weekly budget for groceries.

"There are people who have limited mobility and can only shop once a week or fortnight when they have a carer with them.

"There are the people who are affected by people selfishly clearing the shelves. Don't fool yourself into thinking you are doing the right thing".

Supermarket giant Tesco has started rationing customers to five products each as coronavirus panic buying cripples stocks.

Pictures of supermarket empty shelves have been shared on social media as people across the UK horde household essentials over fears of the coronavirus spread.

A total of 278 people in the UK have tested positive for the deadly bug, the Department of Health and Social Care said.

People are now starting to panic buy household essentials and wear masks in pubic in a bid to protect themselves from the killer epidemic.
