Aldi Christmas jobs available as budget chain looks to hire over 1,500 new workers

Budget supermarket chain Aldi has announced that it is looking to hire over 1,500 new people across the coming weeks in the run-up to Christmas.

The fuel crisis, combined with the ongoing HGV driver shortage, will mean that supermarkets around the country will struggle to meet demand over the festive season.

Aldi is looking for seasonal workers to ensure that its stores are ready for the Christmas rush, as reported by Yorkshire Live.

In-store positions will involve resupplying stock and manning checkouts, while staff are also needed to pack orders for the supermarket's click-and-collect service.

Additionally, the chain has revealed that it is looking to hire 2,000 permanent workers by the end of 2021, as part of its plan to open up a new store every week on average.

Jobs are also being advertised across its 11 Regional Distribution Centres - with positions including warehouse selectors, logistics assistants and lorry drivers.

Kelly Stokes, recruitment director at Aldi UK, said: “We always need extra support over the busy Christmas period but this year especially, temporary store colleagues will play a vital role in keeping our shelves stocked as the nation prepares to reunite with their loved ones after missing out on festive celebrations in 2020.

“At the same time, we also want to recognise and thank our amazing colleagues who have been going above and beyond to serve local communities over the past year.

"This is why we will once again be keeping our stores closed on Boxing Day, and it’s been really encouraging to see other retailers committing to do the same this year.”
