Aldi bringing back heated airer that can dry clothes for 7p an hour and shoppers can pre-order

With energy bills continuing to soar, households across the UK are looking for ways to dry their laundry without reaching for the tumble dryer.

As the winter bites, sub-zero temperatures and flurries of snow make drying outside an impossibility, so finding the balance between effective drying and energy efficiency is more important than ever before. Savvy shoppers will therefore be delighted that discount supermarket Aldi is bringing back its sell-out heated airers just in time to keep costs down for the new year.

The Special Buy item is available to pre-order from December, 18, and will be in stores from December, 27. Packing a powerful punch when it comes to cost-efficient clothes drying, the airer costs just 7p an hour to run, based on current energy prices of £0.34 per kWh.

This is a big saving compared to the average tumble dryer which could set you back more than 30p an hour for the same amount of drying time. The Aldi Easy Home 230W Folded Wing Heated Airer retails for just £39.99, making it cheaper than similar versions sold in Argos and Dunelm.

Featuring 20 heating tubes that start to get warm as soon as the airer is plugged in, the dryer has foldable wings that open out to provide plenty of space for your laundry.

It also comes with a cover that helps the warm air to circulate, helping your clothes to dry faster while using less energy. Perfect for smaller spaces, the airer is lightweight and easy to fold up and pack away when not in use.

Customers who were lucky enough to pick one up the last time it was on sale, said the 3-tier heated airer "dries clothes quickly and cheaply" and that the "cover over it keeps the heat in and gets clothes dried a lot cheaper than a tumble dryer."

For families that need increased drying space, Aldi will also be bringing back the larger three-tier heated upright airer that will be available online only for £89.99. The higher capacity airer has 36 drying bars and open-sided shelves, as well as a cover to help retain the heat.

Buyers will need to be quick though, as both of these heated airers are expected to sell out quickly both online and in-store, and as a Special Buy product, there will only be a limited amount available.
