Aldi blasted for price of its baby milk formula after 'despicable' increase

Shoppers at Aldi have blasted the German supermarket chain as the price of their baby milk formula has risen to 'despicable' levels.

Tiffany-Jayne Greenhalgh took to Facebook to explain that she has been buying the product for the past eight months and has watched the price steadily rise.

Aldi is now selling the baby formula for £8.49 and Tiffany said that if the price continues to go up she soon won't be able to afford it, as the Manchester Evening News reports.

After sharing her insight on a community Facebook page, Tiffany received comments from other parents who slammed the price - as one branded it 'despicable'.

What do you think about Aldi's pricing? Let us know in the comments...

In the initial post, in the 'Scrimping On a Budget ' page, Tiffany wrote: "First infant milk in Aldi has gone up from £7.99 to £8.49 in a week.

"Wouldn't mind but in the eight months we've bought it it's gone up - not sure how much longer we can keep up!"

Parents were quick to slam Aldi for the price increase and flocked to the comments section to have their say.

Williams Kirsty said: "Thank God my twins are on cows' milk. We used to go through five tubs of formula a week! And it was crazy expensive without an extra rise. So wrong. Babies' milk shouldn't be allowed to have a price increase."

Abbie Bennett said: "Necessity isn't it! The price is crippling. "

Shannon Alana wrote: "I walked past the baby milk when looking for body wash and see some were £14!

"That’s ridiculous when we have to feed our babies, I’m due in July and praying I can breastfeed after having complications with my son and having to use formula, I feel sorry for all the parents that have to use it. So expensive!"

Annemarie Keeler commented: "Infant/Baby milk should never be subject to tax or drastic price increase. That is despicable."

Aldi confirmed that the price of the product has increased, but the increase was put in place earlier this month, and not in the past week.

An Aldi spokesperson said: "Customers know by shopping at Aldi they will make substantial savings and our Mamia First Infant Milk is on average 16 per cent cheaper than the Big Four supermarkets.

"As Which?’s cheapest supermarket in 2021, we will continue to ensure customers always make significant savings when they shop with us."
