Aldi bargain hour explained as store discounts food by 75% for customers

Aldi has announced a new bargain hour which will see perishable products reduced in price on their last day of life.

It comes after the store confirmed it was making face masks compulsory and asking customers to shop alone. You can read more about this here.

The supermarket, which has 51 stores across Wales, has made the move to help customers grab a bargain while cutting waste.

It's all part of an Aldi initiative will will see the store work towards a target of halving food waste by 2030.

But how does it work, when is the Aldi bargain hour and what kind if discounts can you expect? Here's everything you need to know.

What is the Aldi bargain hour?

It will see branches reduce food by 75% with a red sticker.

It means all of Aldi's 912 UK stores will soon mark down perishable products such as bread, meat and fruit and vegetables by 75%t before stores close on their last day of life.

Aldi currently reduces the price of some products on their best-before or use-by dates, but is now offering bigger discounts, which are marked with a red sticker.

When is the Aldi bargain hour?

The supermarket has said the time that items are reduced will vary by store.

All products will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and shoppers should look out for the red stickers.

Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, Julie Ashfield, said: "Aldi is already known for its low prices, but these discounts will help some shoppers to cut their grocery bills even further – all while helping us reduce food waste.

"Customers should look out for the red stickers when shopping at Aldi, but shoppers need to be quick as I’m sure the products will prove popular."
