Aldi asks people to 'shop alone if possible' in new statement to customers

Aldi has released a new statement to customers in a bid to encourage social distancing.

The supermarket has asked shoppers to follow the "one person, one trolley" rule.

Posting on Twitter, Aldi wrote: "Please shop individually wherever possible.

"In order to help with social distancing, we are encouraging all customers to try and reduce the number of family members they bring with them into our stores."

A statement posted then read: "Where necessary parents can shop with their children, but like all supermarkets we're asking people to shop alone if possible to support social distancing in our stores."

Aldi is also the first supermarket to relax its shopping restrictions in store.

Previously the store had put a four-limit restriction across all products, but is now only rationing certain items.

Now the four-limit restriction applies to the following items, while some have a two per customer limit.

Four per customer

  • Antibacterial wipes
  • Hand wash and soap
  • Shower gel
  • Bleach
  • Toilet tissue, kitchen towel, tissues
  • Nappies
  • Pasta
  • Canned tomatoes, canned beans and sausages
  • Part baked bread
  • Beers, wines and spirits

Two per customer

  • Antibacterial hand gel
  • UHT milk
  • Baby formula
