Aldi announces changes to use of trolleys and baskets during coronavirus outbreak

Aldi has introduced a new measure to help keep customers safe during the coronavirus outbreak.

The supermarket had already put measures in place to deal with the level of 'panic buying' in the store.

Until recently, the supermarket put restrictions on certain items - and customers could only buy limited amounts of items in high demand..

These restrictions have since been lifted - except on hand wash (maximum 4 products per shopper), shower gel (maximum 4 products per shopper) and UHT milk (maximum 2 products per shopper).

However over the weekend a new measure was introduced in stores.

Customers are now being offered wipes to disinfect the basket or trolley they pick up at the entrance of the store.

Aldi has also introduced special opening hours reserved for the elderly and NHS workers.

Early opening on Sundays is reserved for NHS workers, and those who work in the emergency services, while exclusive access will be given to elderly and vulnerable customers on Monday mornings.
