Aldi announces changes to store opening times from Friday

Aldi has announced it is changing its store opening times.

The supermarket has made the move in response to the coronavirus pandemic that has seen store shelves stripped bare.

In a statement on social media, Aldi wrote: "Thank you for being patient over the last few days while our stores have been busier than usual.

"Our amazing colleagues have been working very hard and we want to give them additional support whilst also allowing for product replenishment.

"Our daily opening hours will shorten slightly, and we will close at 8pm from this Friday onwards. Sunday opening hours will remain unchanged, except in Scotland where stores will close at 6pm.

"This temporary change will be in place until further notice and will help stores be at their best every day."

"Thank you for your continued support."

Most Aldi stores are usually open until 10pm, so the new time will give staff two hours to restock the shelves for the next day.

It comes after Aldi put limits on how many products customers could buy in a statement from CEO Giles Hurley.

Customers are currently limited to buying four items of any one product during each visit.

Aldi was also praised after it announced it was donating £250,000 to Age UK.
