Aldi announces big changes to shopping rules and will introduce priority hours

One of the UK's biggest supermarkets, Aldi, is to lift restrictions on almost all its products from Monday. A host of items could only be bought in limited amounts until now, in a bid to serve as many customers as possible during lockdown.

The relaxing of purchase limits follows a return to stable levels of trading and good availability across all Aldi stores.

Three items will be exempted however from the new rules:

  • Hand Wash (maximum 4 products)
  • Shower Gel (maximum 4 products)
  • UHT Milk (maximum 2 products)

And from this weekend, customers will also be offered wipes to disinfect trolleys and baskets when they enter Aldi stores of which Leeds has several.

As a further measure to improve customer safety, Aldi is introducing new priority shopping hours for elderly or vulnerable customers who have no option but to visit stores.

From Monday, exclusive access will be given to stores for elderly and vulnerable customers 30 minutes before normal opening times, Monday to Saturday.

Early opening on Sundays will continue to be reserved for NHS and emergency workers.

Customers will also be able to use their contactless card for transactions up to £45, as contactless limits increase from Monday.

This will allow more customers to pay without cash or contact with payment terminals.
