Aldi and Lidl recall five batches of houmous over salmonella danger

Five batches of houmous have been recalled over the past week amid fears they could be contaminated with Salmonella.

This includes recalls from supermarket giants Aldi and Lidl.

In all cases, customers  who may have bought any of these products are being urged not to use them, or to return them to the store they purchased them from, reports Somerset Live.

The products, which come from the UK, have been recalled by Zorba Delicacies.

Aldi

The Deli brand Houmous (FSAI)

 

Deli Brand Reduced Fat Classic Houmous Triple Pack (3x60g), with a use by date of 3/11/2019.

The Reduced Fat Houmous Selection Triple Pack (3x60g) with a use by date of 2/11/2019 and 3/11/2019.

The Deli brand Basil Houmous topped with Pesto and Parmesan (170g), with a use by date of 4/11/2019.

Lidl

Lidl Meadow Fresh Houmous (FSAI)

 

Meadow Fresh brand Red Pepper Houmous (170g) with a use by date of 6/11/2019.

Meadow Fresh brand Classic Houmous stacker (3x60g), use by date 6/11/2019.

A Food Safety Authority spokesman added: "People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between 6 and 72 hours.

"The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody.  Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps. 

"The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission.

"The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness."
