Alder Hey warns parents to 'please think' before visiting A&E

Alder Hey Children's Hospital is urging parents to 'please think' before attending A&E with their children for non-emergency treatment.

The specialist children's hospital shared a video on social media saying it is under 'huge pressures'.

In the video, which was shared on Facebook, Alder Hey's Lead Consultant Anne Kerr urged parents to stop and think whether they need to come to A&E, or if they could visit their GP or dial 111 instead.

In a message to patients, Dr Kerr said: "We're under huge pressure at the moment with a high volume of patients coming to us.

"Please think before coming to the emergency department.

"Use the NHS 111 first, website or the phone number, and they'll be able to direct you to the right service that you need."

The hospital added it was experiencing "very high levels of attendances".

It advised parents that Liverpool walk-in centres are also open, but visitors must call 0300 100 1004 to be assessed first.
