‘Alcohol-related episode’: Top Republican banned from international trips by MAGA colleagues after Mexico incident

Drinking at a work function is like playing with fire. Sure, after one beer, you’re loosened up, cracking some jokes, enjoying letting your hair down around your colleagues. Smash cut to the next morning, and you’re waking up with a pounding headache, a fuzzily defined sense of guilt, and an email from HR in your inbox.

Such is the case for Republican House Representative Dan Crenshaw, who has been officially banned from all international congressional travel for three months after a bizarre and vague incident on an official trip to Mexico.

As per a report from Puncbbowl, Crenshaw was happily getting soused with a group of Mexican officials (apparently they were generals). One of them cracked an offensive joke that a woman present objected to, only for Crenshaw to toast the guy.

On Crenshaw’s return to Washington, he was summoned to meet House Speaker Mike Johnson and House Intelligence Committee chair Rick Cranford, for what was apparently a “heated” discussion. Whatever was said, it didn’t go Crenshaw’s way, and Crawford promptly banned him from traveling on official duties, as approved by GOP leadership.

It seems that the pair were so mad at Crenshaw that they wanted to boot him off the Intelligence Committee altogether, but settled for shutting down his “Cartel Task Force” instead.

The mystery deepens

Considering what most Republicans get away with under Trump, it’s deeply suspicious that Crenshaw has apparently been so severely punished for the crime of laughing at a sexist joke and toasting the guy who made it.

Either that’s a cover story for a far more serious incident they’re keeping quiet, or Crenshaw is being penalized for his politics. After all, Crenshaw currently is on the outs with MAGA, which has dubbed him a “RINO” and his Congressional seat is being challenged in a primary by the Trumpite Elizabeth Gomez, who dismissed him as “a little man with no balls that funds Ukraine and betrays the American people every chance he gets.”

Crenshaw himself has denied that this is a big deal, but is also refusing to clarify exactly what this innocent “toast” entailed.

All of which means that Dan “Punished” Crenshaw may be looking for a new job after the 2026 midterms. Here’s hoping we get some more insight into what this joke was, and exactly how this “alcohol-related incident” went down, as right now everything seems suspiciously vague.
