Alcohol, cigarettes taken in Hamilton robbery

Three men and a woman stormed a Hamilton liquor store and took off with alcohol and cigarettes.

Waikato police Senior Sergeant Phil Ruddell said the group, one of whom was armed with a bat, entered the Liquor Centre on Sandwich Rd, St Andrews, about 9pm yesterday.

"They have targeted cigarettes and alcohol before leaving in a stolen silver Mazda Atenza," he said.

The group had their faces covered with bandannas, and the vehicle was found abandoned a short time later on nearby Delamere Rd under the Wairere Dr bridge.

Shop staff were not injured, he said.

"Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the store but are keen to hear from anybody that may have been in that area at the time, either in the liquor store or on Delamere Rd."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on (07) 858 6200.

The robbery is the latest in a spate to hit city dairies and service stations this year.
