Alcohol appears to be a factor in a head-on traffic crash Wednesday night that partially ejected a 27-year-old woman and seriously inured two others in Beach Park, authorities said.

The crash happened about 10:20 p.m. at Green Bay Road and Chaplin Avenue, the Lake County sheriff’s office said in a statement.

A 33-year-old Waukegan man was northbound in a Nissan Altima when he crossed into the southbound lanes and hit a Chevrolet Cavalier driven by another 33-year-old Waukegan man, the sheriff’s office said. It’s unclear why the car crossed lanes.

The woman, from North Chicago, was partially ejected from the Chevrolet’s windshield. She was not wearing a seatbelt and was taken Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with serious injuries.

The driver of the Nissan was also taken to Condell Medical Center with critical injuries, while the driver of the Chevrolet was taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan with serious injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

Another passenger in the Chevrolet, a 35-year-old man from Waukegan, was taken to Condell Medical Center with minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County sheriff’s office.
