Alchemilla chef to take over Yorkhill's Firebird with new restaurant Gloriosa

We have good news and bad, Glasgow food fans - but we have a feeling that you’ll be excited at the prospect of this new opening.

As reported by Glasgow West End Today , Yorkhill stalwart Firebird is being taken over, making way for new restaurant Gloriosa.

It’s a new venture for Rosie Healey, founding chef of Alchemilla in nearby Finnieston and a protege of Yotam Ottolenghi - so while we’re sad to see an old west end favourite go, we’re sure there are great things to come.

Gloriosa will open on November 25, with 60 covers in the restaurant and a further 25 at the bar.

There will be a focus on veg and pasta dishes, as well as fish and meat fresh from the wood-fired oven - but there will be no sharing plates (Alchemilla’s speciality) in sight, with a menu that shifts back to traditional big plates.

The owner of Firebird is still involved in the refurbishment and new restaurant launch, so it’s not quite a goodbye to one of our favourite casual food spots.

We can’t wait to see what’s in store at Gloriosa when it opens later this month!
