Albury back in mix to be Storm base

Melbourne Storm champ Cameron Smith.

Melbourne Storm will decide today on its interstate training base to prepare for the National Rugby League resumption with Albury a live option.

Storm officials had hoped to stay in Melbourne, but were forced to look further afield with the state of emergency due to COVID-19 pandemic still in place until May 11.

Clubs have been given the green light to resume training this week with a plan to use Yarrawonga's J.C. Lowe Oval to train and stay at the Yarrawonga-Mulwala Golf Resort the preference for Storm in the event it couldn't stay in Melbourne.

The Border Mail understands the Yarrawonga Pigeons' home ground also being in Victoria was an issue which couldn't be overcome in discussions between the Victorian Government and Storm.

Albury was initially touted as a temporary training venue for Storm with Albury Council offering up Greenfield Park.

Storm CEO Dave Donaghy said a final decision would be made today.
