Albion Rovers would "love" to bring back ex-loan striker - but cash could halt deal

Albion Rovers boss Kevin Harper says he would “love” to welcome George Newell back to Cliftonhill – but conceded that he might be out of their price range.

Newell spent the second half of last season on loan in Coatbridge from Motherwell, and played a key role in Rovers’ revival last term to escape relegation.

The loanee has now been released from his deal at parent  club Motherwell, but Harper has warned that the Englishman will be on the hunt for full-time football next season.

“We know that George is a top player,” he told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser.

“He had a couple of niggles and injuries last season and missed a couple of games, but he showed his quality in the likes of the win over Edinburgh City game.

“I have spoken to him and he is looking for a full-time option just now. He is one we look at just now
and he could be a bit out of our price range.

“But if he wanted to have a go at part-time football I would certainly hope to speak with him.

“He knows what myself and Joe (McLaughlin) think of him as a player and we would love to have him back with us for next season.”
