Albion Rovers striker 'buzzing' after being named League Two Player of the Month

Albion Rovers striker Matty Aitken has been named Scottish League Two Player of the Month for April after helping to steer his side to a seventh-placed finish.

Aitken, 23, scored four goals in an impressive April for Rovers, which saw them win five of their eight games, with just one defeat to Stranraer in a hectic fixtures list.

The former Elgin forward finished the season on 12 goals in total.

He said: "I'm buzzing with that to be honest; I knew myself that I had played well but I didn't really expect it, and you can't grumble when the personal awards come around.

"You just have to enjoy it while it lasts, hopefully keep it up, and I hope I can keep up the way I've been playing.

"I scored 12 goals in total, including the cup, so I've personally done quite well and I was happy with the way it went.

"Since the restart it has been a completely different team at Albion Rovers and it's good that was the case, because there's no point in getting personal awards when the team does badly.

"The team is the most important thing, but I'm just happy that I could play my part and help out."

Aitken scooping the award comes just after Brian Reid was named Manager of the Month for April.
