Albion Rovers star Smart Osadolor says return of boss Kevin Harper could impact on his future

Smart Osadolor admits Albion Rovers gaffer Kevin Harper would be a big factor in his return to Cliftonhill.

The forward spent the second half of the season on loan from Queen’s Park in Coatbridge, and played a crucial role in League Two survival.

The 28-year-old admits he has bought into the vision of Harper and assistant boss Joe McLaughlin for next season and hopes to see them in the dugout again after achieving the great escape.

However, the fan favourite says he won’t rush into a decision on his future, after his contract with the Spiders ended.

Albion Rovers Q&A as chiefs open up on Cliftonhill, John Brogan, the Lowland League and keeping the club alive

“I spoke to the gaffer last week and he was still trying to get his plans sorted for next season,” said the striker.

“Nothing has been decided yet but hopefully over the next couple of weeks the gaffer and Joe will find out about their future and things can move on.

“No manager or players starts the season wanting to fight relegation, so I think the gaffer just wants the support he feels like he deserves in order to go for the play-off places. He has that ambition, and would even like to go for the top of the league if he could.

“For me it would add another reason to stay at the club if the gaffer and Joe signed up for another season.

“The fans have been class with me and that’s another reason to want to stay, but you just never know in football.

Albion Rovers consortium axe any plans to take control at Cliftonhill

“Leicester went on to win the league, and the next season their manager was sacked, you can never tell what’s going to happen.”

He continued: “I’m not going to jump into anything. We’ve got a month before you start to focus on pre-season.

"I’ve jumped into things before and signed a pre-contract with Stranraer, then ended up playing about 25 minutes in League One.

“I’ve learned from my mistakes and there isn’t really any rush. I would say though what the gaffer hopes to do is really exciting and he is setting his aims really high.”
