Albion Rovers goal hero Jamie Leslie took a sore one but says it's worth it

Jamie Leslie was delighted to bag the goal that beat Annan and kept Albion Rovers in League Two - even if he has a nasty wound to show for it.

Leslie was the victim of a heavy challenge that saw Owen Moxon shown a straight red card, a minute before the Rovers star threw headed in Lewis Wilson's cross.

It was one of those moments where as soon as he connected, Leslie knew he had scored.

But he conceded that Rovers' turnaround in recent weeks has been so stark that the same game earlier this season might not have gone their way.

He said: "It's a great three points and at the end of the day, when you come on as a substitute you just want to make an impact, and getting the winning goal, I'm glad to have done that.

"It has been a tough season, with ups and downs, and we're certainly looking to end the season better than what we started it.

"If we had played that game at the start of the season it probably wouldn't have been that score-line, but the lads have dug in deep and came through it with three points.

"My leg was still sore from the tackle just a couple of minutes before that, and as soon as the ball came into the box it was just kind of a blur, but I knew as soon as it left my head that it was in the back of the net.

"As soon as you get a man sent off, on a day like this it's tiring, it's hard-going, and it's even harder when you go down to 10 men.

"The ball has gone up in the air, I've only focused on heading the ball, and I felt this stud going all the way down my leg.

"It wasn't nice, but the goal made that feel better a couple of minutes later.

"It was a sore one, though - that will sting in the shower later on."

Leslie added: "In the last couple of weeks we've not really been looking over our shoulders, now that it's into the 'mini-leagues' we're just looking to finish as high up in the league as we can.

"It's a nice feeling to have it official, especially with how we started the season, but staying up for another season, getting the winning goal, it's a good feeling, I'm feeling good."
