Albion Rovers boss Kevin Harper pays emotional tribute to coach Michael Duke one year after tragic death

Kevin Harper fondly remembers goalkeeping coach Michael Duke always coming into Albion Rovers training with a beaming smile.

The dad of three tragically passed away overnight on March 2, 2019 having been in the dugout for Rovers game against Berwick Rangers.

The 38-year-old was in his first season at Cliftonhill after spending the majority of his career in the junior ranks Kilsyth Rangers.

Boss Harper says he always brought a ray of sunshine to the Coatbridge outfit as they struggled at the foot of League Two last term.

He says 'Dukesy' gave the team the inspiration to avoid relegation.

Harper told Lanarkshire Live Sport: "He always came in with a smile and was great with all of the players, not just the goalkeepers.

"He helped us stay positive and was a really important part of the dressing room.

"He was the catalyst for the club surviving relegation last season. It galvanised and focused the players.

"He had such a big presence around the dressing room; I can't believe it's been a year.

"He is still missed at the club. It's such a sad loss for Albion Rovers but my thoughts are with his family and kids at this time."
