Albion Rovers boss delighted to net midfielder as player hunt continues

Albion Rovers have signed former East Kilbride midfielder Blair Malcolm on a deal until the end of this season.

Boss Brian Reid says the versatile 24-year-old, who can also play in defence, is one of four stars that he hopes to add during the January transfer window.

Malcolm has also had previous stints with Ross County, Cowdenbeath and Alloa, and Reid revealed he caught the eye of his assistant, Scott MacKenzie.

He said: "We needed a centre midfielder because we're short in that position.

"His name was given to me by my assistant Scotty MacKenzie, who knows him from his Partick Thistle days, so that's one of the reasons that we know he's a decent athlete, a decent player, and a good one to get in.

"He has been at Cowdenbeath and Alloa and he's got decent experience and is still in his early 20s, so we're pleased to get him on board.

"We're trying to get another three or four in if we can, and we're working on a couple at the moment but there's nothing definite at the moment.

"Centre-half is one of my priorities at the moment because with big Aldin El-Zubaidi away we're short, and ideally a left-back, but they're difficult. There is one I'm hopeful on but we'll wait and see what happens on that.

"Adam Fernie's doing a grand job in there, so it's not an emergency, but we need positions covered because if something happens to him we'll be short in that position.

"We'll keep working at it."
