Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid warns his side to turn battling performances into wins

Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid says his side must start turning battling performances into wins or at least points, after going down 2-1 to Edinburgh City at Cliftonhill last night.

Reid felt his side were worthy of at least a point against a side that are fourth in League Two, and said he thought they could have won after James McGowan bagged a leveller 57 minutes in.

Ouzy See instead scored his second goal of the game in 74 minutes to take the points back to the capital, but Reid says he saw enough to give him hope of steering the Coatbridge side away from the relegation zone.

He said: "I would have been disappointed with the way it went if it had finished in a draw, never mind losing the game.

"It was a good performance, in terms of that we were in the game for all parts of it, gave as good as we got, created a few chances, had one cleared off the line and their keeper has made a couple of good saves, so it's just unfortunate.

"In the second half, with the way it was going, when we got the equaliser I actually felt we would have gone on and won the game, never mind losing it, so it was a sore one to take.

"But it was an encouraging performance, there were a lot of positives to take, and we had a lot of experience in the team.

"I was pleased in terms of the application, attitude and everything else, and the commitment from the players was exceptional, so I felt sorry that we never even got a point out of it."

Reid added: "Edinburgh City are up there challenging, and we gave as good as we got, but we just need to turn these battling performances into wins or points.

"A lot of signs are encouraging for the way ahead, and hopefully we can continue that progression, get better and better and turn these performances into wins.

Reid says getting players into training is difficult just now with the amount of games they have (Ben Kearney/ARFC)

"We are making progress, but the problem is that we don't have a lot of time.

"It's game after game after game, we don't even have a chance to work with them on the training ground, it's a difficult situation, normally these players would be working on the training ground and getting used to each other, but we're not even getting that opportunity.

"It's a game on Saturday, report for the game on Tuesday, a light session on Wednesday night, and then back in on Saturday again, and we've got midweek games again.

"It's a difficult situation for everybody and it is what it is, but we just need to adapt quickly.

"Hopefully our match fitness comes back and our understanding of playing alongside each other improves, and we can turn these performances into wins."

Rovers host an Annan Athletic side on Saturday that were knocked out of the Scottish Cup second round by Formartine United on penalties, and Reid knows his side can draw level with their opponents on nine points with a win, and the added benefit of a game in hand.

That would allow them to start their ascent away from danger, and Reid hopes they capitalise on it.

"Its an important game, and if we can improve on what we did last night and turn that type of performance into three points then we'll not be far away," he said.

Reid has added experienced players like former Hearts star Ryan Stevenson (Ben Kearney/ARFC)

"All the decisions, the wee bits of lucks and breaks, don't seem to go for us, and hopefully that changes, because it's part and parcel of football to get a few breaks or lucky bounces, so we just need that wee bit of luck.

"Normally when you're down at the bottom of the league you don't seem to get these breaks, but hopefully that turns.

"We just need to make sure we take care of business. Annan will want the points as much as us, so we need to make sure we're up for the battle again and perform at a level that we can win the game.

"We're at home, so we really need to start picking up points there."
