Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid wants to add five new faces in transfer window

Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid hopes to add another five signings after snapping up experienced defender Paul Gallacher until the end of this season.

Though Reid wouldn’t identify his targets, he says four will be loans, with one signing, should he get them all over the line.

With a limit of six loans imposed on him, that means only Paul Allan and Finn Ecrepont will remain at the League Two club, with Joe Moore, Josh Burke (both Airdrie) and Gabe Skeoch (Ayr Utd) heading back to their parent clubs.

Reid says it has been difficult to attract players to the Coatbridge club and he has been trying for some time to get experienced guys in.

He said: “Paul Gallacher has good experience, he’s played for Queen’s Park for a few years as well.

“I’ve been looking to sign an experienced centre-half since I came to the club, but that’s been very difficult.

“No disrespect to the young ones but we’re playing an under-20 team in a man’s league which makes it very difficult.

“I’ve been trying to add experience since the start of the season but budgets make it difficult to try and attract the players you want, because they’re offered better money elsewhere.

“Of the four or five that I’m bringing in, one is in their late 20s, two are 30 and one is 32, so that should help us with a bit of experience and hopefully they can make the difference.

“I’m hoping three are almost done and I’m waiting to hear on another one, so I should know by the end of this week if I’ve managed to get the four.”

Rovers had been due to face Queen’s Park on Saturday, but the clash was called off due to a frozen pitch.

Reid added: “Four of the new players will be loans and one will be a signing, so hopefully they’ll be done by the end of the week and I need to try and get them bedded in before the next league game – if it ever gets played with this weather!

“We’re allowed a maximum of six loans so we’ll be probably keeping Paul Allan and Finn Ecrepont beyond that.

“That means Joe Moore, Josh Burke and Gabe Skeoch will be returning to their clubs and I would like to thank them for their efforts and for coming in to us.”
