Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid revealed that a training ground heart-to-heart with winger Kyle Doherty convinced him he could score goals, and he delivered, bagging four in a 6-0 SPFL Trust Trophy second round win against St Mirren 'B' on Saturday.
Doherty ran riot at Cliftonhill against his old club, scoring four either side of an unfortunate own-goal by Aiden Clocherty and a last-minute goal from Rovers' Kieran Dolan.
Reid was delighted with the win, and with his star.
He said: "I've been speaking to Doc; since the season's start I've been in his ear, and he's probably fed up with me talking to him, but he has that ability.
"I've been watching him in training, he has been scoring goals in training, and he's certainly clinical.
"That's the form he needs to take into games, and it was nice to see him do that, so hopefully that will give him a big boost and he can kick on.
"Any striker that scores four goals in any game should thrive off that, and that should give him a big confidence boost, so hopefully that can help him for the season ahead.

"A lot of people forget, Doc is only 19, he's still young and learning his trade, and he's come in and done very well for us.
"He has a good attitude, works hard, and is really aggressive in the way he plays, and he has great potential.
"He has two good feet, he's quick and powerful, so he has all the attributes, but I've said to him at part-time level it's not enough to train twice a week and think that's you on a Saturday, so I've told him he needs to go away and work on things himself, away from the club."
Reid added: "We played well, and we reiterated all week that these games are dangerous. St Mirren 'B' knocked out a strong Kelty Hearts team, so we were well aware.
"I watched Hearts B's game against Hamilton Accies, and these teams are giving some senior teams a tough game, so we had to approach it in the right manner, be professional about it, and give them the respect they were due.
"I felt we were on the front-foot from the first whistle, the young boy scored an own-goal which is unfortunate for him and gives us a wee early start, and we never looked back from then on.
"We were clinical, worked really hard and had a good shape about us, so it was a good day for us.
"It was well done, and pleasing to see, so I'll enjoy the moment and then we'll look ahead to next week and Cowdenbeath."
