Albion Rovers took the extra point with a 4-2 shoot-out win after a battling 0-0 draw with Championship side Ayr United in their Premier Sports Cup Group E opener.
Goalkeeper Cammy Binnie saved spot-kicks from Michael Miller and Tomi Adeloye, while Ryan Stevenson, David Wilson, Scott Roberts and Charlie Reilly netted for the League Two hosts.
The sides couldn't be separated over the 90 minutes and, while it wasn't a classic, a draw was probably just about fair, with both sides having chances.
Ayr ran out comfortable 5-2 winners the last time these sides met here in the same competition last season, but there was no likelihood of that this afternoon.
The visitors did look the more threatening, as you would expect from a Championship side, and hit the bar before forcing a good save from Binnie on his debut.
Rovers had a couple of flurries forward, though, and Reilly in particular looked like he was in the mood, though his crosses were either blocked or not taken advantage of.
Reilly had Rovers' best chance in a stuffy second half, while Tomi Adeloye saw his netbound shot denied by a superb save.
Rovers boss Brian Reid handed debuts to goalkeeper Binnie, James McGowan, David Wilson, Declan Byrne and Reilly.
His Ayr United counterpart David Hopkin gave four debuts to keeper Aidan McAdams, Sean McGinty, Adeloye and Cameron Sakeld.

Ayr had the first real opening in four minutes when Patrick Reading's corner from the right was stabbed past the far post corner by captain McGinty.
Visiting keeper Aidan McAdams hit an attempted clearance off Kyle Doherty in eight minutes, but the offside flag went up against the Rovers striker.
Ayr threatened again in 11 minutes when Adeloye made his way to the right bye-line and curled in a cross that Sakeld headed just past the left post.
But the visitors should have scored in 11 minutes when a slack passback let Adeloye in and he clipped the ball over Binnie - only to see it crash off the top of the bar.
Another slack passback from Sean Fagan two minutes later sent Aaron Muirhead through, but Binnie was alert to clear the danger.
Rovers had an opening in 14 minutes when a long ball over the top was misjudged by McAdams and that let in Byrne, but Ayr defended solidly, with hopeful fans screaming for a penalty.
Play raged up the other end and Ayr's Michael Miller sent a curling effort just wide of the top right corner from about 22 yards out on the right.
Rovers were temporarily down to 10 men in 25 minutes while Adam Fernie received treatment, and Ayr tried to take advantage, with Sakeld swinging in a cross from the right, but Fagan recovered well to clear.
Ayr went close again when Reading's corner from the right was met at the back post by McGinty, but his header was superbly saved by Binnie.

Much of the second half was spent with defences clearing high balls, or long-range passes going straight to keepers.
The first real chance fell to Ayr in 65 minutes when Sakeld lost his man and raced through on the right, but shot straight at Binnie.
Rovers nearly took the lead in 66 minutes when Callum Wilson's cross from the right was met with a towering header by Byrne, but he sent it over.
Ayr went close in 70 minutes when Adeloye held the ball up well and played it back to Sakeld, but he screwed his shot wide of the left post from just inside the box.
The visitors tried again in 76 minutes and it was a familiar formula, as unmarked McGinty headed over a Reading corner.
Rovers then passed up their best chance of the game moments later when Reilly was sent through on goal and clipped a shot over outrushing McAdam, but it bounced past the right post.
Binnie was forced into a stunning save to prevent Adeloye's powerful shot from ripping into the net after the former Barnet striker was sent through on goal in 82 minutes.
