Albian Ajeti makes instant Celtic impression as chuffed Neil Lennon raves about striker

Celtic striker Albian Ajeti is in line for a quick-fire debut in Tuesday's crunch Champions League qualifier against Reykjavík.

The Swiss international sealed his £5m switch from West Ham last week and has been training with the Premiership champions in recent days.

And delighted Neil Lennon has revealed his the 23-year-old could feature from the bench against the Icelandic champions in the first round qualifier.

He said: "He’ll be in the squad but he’s not ready to start. He’s got a bit more work to do.

“I think he’ll be a very good signing for us going forward. I think he’s a natural goalscorer."

But one man who won't be playing at Parkhead this week is Leigh Griffiths with the striker still on the sidelines after a recent calf strain.

The Celtic boss admits he's excited about returning to match action after an enforced 10-day absence in the wake of Boli Bolingoli's quarantine breach.

And Lennon is determined to secure a return to the richest tournament in world football as he aims to navigate four treacherous rounds of qualifying.

He said: “It’s one of the priorities of the season and the players will be focussed.

"It’s important for the club. We’ve had a long time back training and 2 competitive games so this game is really important for a lot of reasons.

“It’s the new norm (one-legged ties) and it’s been exciting but if you’re on the other end of a defeat it’s pretty hard to consume. Personally I prefer 2-legged affairs but we know what we have to do and we know what lies ahead if we negotiate Reykjavik.”

“We’re very much looking forward to playing. It’s been a little bit disruptive but you’ve got to make the best of it and we’ve had a good week’s training. We all know what our responsibilities are going forward.”
