Albian Ajeti makes Celtic goal pledge as he reveals bittersweet background to Dundee United winner

Celtic matchwinner Albian Ajeti was delighted to get off the mark for his new club and have the trust of his new gaffer.

The Swiss international came off the bench to grab a vital winner at Dundee United, his first goal since a £5million move from West Ham.

And Ajeti is delighted to have the confidence of manager Neil Lennon, having struggled to establish himself in England.

He said: “I’m very happy. First, it was important to get the three points here.

“It was a tough game, with a strong opponent who was fighting. But we had plenty of chances and it was just a matter of time before we scored the first goal.

“I don’t put pressure on myself because I know I can score goals. I have shown that many times.

“I will do my best for the team and try to score as many as possible.

“The difference between West Ham and here is that I feel the trust from the gaffer.

“He’s given me my confidence back and for a striker it’s important to feel that and have a good relationship with the manager.”

Ajeti finally got the better of Dundee United’s Swiss goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist who had denied the Hoops with a string of saves before the striker’s late goal.

And the new man revealed his first striker came past an old friend.

He said: “I actually know the keeper from Switzerland, he’s a friend of mine but today we were opponents.

“He had a very good day but I’m happy that I could break the line and score a winning goal.

“He’s a couple of years older than me but we played in the Basel academy for a long time.

“I’m just happy that I scored. We have big games coming up and we have to be ready.”
