Albian Ajeti Celtic transfer sweat as Sturm Graz 'want to wait' before deciding on permanent move for Parkhead flop

Celtic could be set to offload misfit striker Albian Ajeti for good after Sturm Graz revealed they will soon open talks about signing the Swiss in a £2.1 million deal.

Ajeti moved on the last day of the summer transfer window with the Austrian club securing him on a season-long loan with an option to buy him on a long-term deal. Ajeti cost Celtic £5m in 2020 from West Ham, but he only managed to score eight league goals in two seasons and had no future under Ange Postecoglou. But he will still have a year left on his contract if and when he returns to Scotland.

However, Sturm Graz remain in the hunt for an Austrian Bundesliga and cup double and Ajeti is a key player for them and starts most weeks, despite only scoring three goals for the club since his arrival. Now sports director Andreas Schicker has confirmed the timescale for a decision to be made about the 26-year-old. He said: "The situation with Albian Ajeti is still open.

"Fortunately, we can still exercise the purchase option after the end of the season and therefore we want to wait for a few more games before we enter into an exchange with Celtic. We have a couple of players that we have purchase options with. We have to react as a club by being well-prepared.

"Next season it will be important that we have a certain continuity. As of today, I am not afraid that there will be a major upheaval for the next campaign.”
