Albian Ajeti Celtic ban hearing delayed as SFA tribunal pushed back 24 hours

Celtic striker Albian Ajeti faces a further delay before discovering whether he will be banned for simulation during last week's 4-0 win over Kilmarnock.

The Swiss frontman went down under a challenge from Colin Doyle with Odsonne Edouard stepping up to make it 2-0 for Neil Lennon's men.

But Celtic were left shocked when a notice of complaint was handed out and vowed they would fight the charge, with Lennon insisting 'goalposts had been moved'.

That hearing was initially due to take place today but the SFA now state that the hearing will take place on Tuesday, meaning Ajeti could be banned for Wednesday night's game at St Mirren just 24 hours before kick-off.

Lennon was left raging at the potential ban and revealed Ajeti was 'bewildered' by the charge after being told of the news.

He said: "If you’ve three referees looking at that and they can’t see that there’s contact, then I think the three referees need to be looked at rather than anything else.

"I’m pretty sure one or two other referees said there was contact, so why this process is still ongoing, I don’t understand.

“I couldn’t believe it. You see some of the other things that are going on around the country that we don’t make a big deal of.

“I’m surprised, but we’ll defend it as vigorously as possible. He (Ajeti) is not upset. He’s just bewildered by it all.

“He just doesn’t understand why these charges have been brought, but we’re confident we can win the appeal.

“He’s gone for the ball and the goalkeeper has made contact with his foot or his ankle, so he’s gone over and it’s a penalty.

“Where this charge of simulation comes from is absolutely beyond me.

“I certainly don’t understand where this one has come from because you can clearly see that there is contact.

“I don’t think he will miss games, but that’s just my opinion. And he’s starting [against Motherwell].

“He will have all the support from me, the team and the club. I don’t think he has a case to answer.

“If there’s no contact, I could understand the charge of simulation, but there is contact. You can see he’s made contact with his foot or the back of his ankle with his arm or with his hand and he’s gone down.

“He’s done what any other player would do around the country and around the world. This for me is pretty pedantic.

I was convinced at the time and nothing I’ve seen since has changed my mind.

“Looking at it in real time and looking at it slowed down, it’s not like he’s jumped away from the goalkeeper. Doyle has made contact with the back of his foot and his foot is inverted. It could have been quite painful on the fall."
