NEW DELHI: Mumbai City FC has on Tuesday announced that Spanish midfielder Alberto Noguera has signed a new one-year contract, prolonging his association with the club until the conclusion of the 2023-24 season.
The 33-year-old played a pivotal role in Mumbai City's triumphant campaign last season, contributing significantly to the team's success in securing the 2022-23 Indian Super League Winners' Shield with an impressive eighteen games remaining in the season.
Noguera not only played an integral part in Mumbai City FC's relentless offensive prowess, netting crucial goals against Hyderabad FC, Chennayin FC, FC Goa, and Odisha FC, but he also bolstered the team's impregnable defence with 55 tackles, 11 interceptions, and 15 blocks.
The attacking midfielder capped off his remarkable debut season with Mumbai City FC by scoring a stunning goal in a 3-1 victory over Jamshedpur FC during the club playoffs. This victory ensured Mumbai City FC's qualification for the Group Stage of the 2023-24 AFC Champions League.
Hailing from Madrid, Noguera progressed through the ranks at Getafe CF before embarking on his professional career with Rayo Vallecano. He has also represented Atletico Madrid in La Liga and has plied his trade in various clubs across the Segunda and Tercera divisions in Spain.
Furthermore, Noguera has had stints abroad, featuring for Blackpool FC in England and Baku FC in Azerbaijan. Prior to joining Mumbai City FC, he represented FC Goa for two seasons from 2020 to 2022.
With his contract extension, Mumbai City FC can rely on Noguera's wealth of experience and versatility on the field as they continue their pursuit of excellence in the upcoming season.
