Alberto Nisman's death: the unanswered questions

Was it suicide or murder?

Investigators have yet to rule out either, though family, friends and associates have dismissed the possibility that Alberto Nisman killed himself. There was no note and the prosecutor was said to be in good spirits ahead of his planned testimony to congress.

Where were the bodyguards?

Nisman had a security detail of 10 federal police. They have given conflicting accounts of what happened on the day of his death. Suspicions about their loyalties have prompted prosecutors to use officers from a different branch of the police force to guard other suspects.

Why did Nisman borrow a gun?

Nisman owned two registered guns, yet his colleague Diego Lagomarsino says he asked to borrow a Bersa .22 on the day before he died because he was worried about security. This was the weapon that killed him.

If it was murder, how did the killer escape detection?

As well as police bodyguards, Nisman’s housing complex has security guards and CCTV cameras at every entrance. All visitors are registered. Once inside Nisman’s tower block, however, there were three ways to enter his home.

What about the timing of all of this?

The prosecutor had already made his allegations public, so his death only served to amplify his claims. If anyone wanted to silence him, it would have made more sense to do so earlier.
